We were asked to provide a quote for underfloor heating (UFH) as part of an extensive refurbishment project at a home in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. The customer wanted to fit an overfloor UFH system throughout the ground floor of his property, including the kitchen, but this would not be straightforward because he also wanted different floor coverings laid on top in the various different rooms. The kitchen also had a complex layout that would require careful designing to ensure sufficient heat output throughout the room while avoiding wasting heat under the island, for example.
At Continal our range includes every possible type of water-based UFH system, including those suitable for use with solid, overfloor and suspended floors. This meant we were able to supply a quote for exactly what the customer needed – using a mixture of our TileFix® and SlimFix® boards to accommodate his wish for different floor coverings.
TileFix® is the only UFH system on the market that can be tiled directly onto using a flexible tile adhesive, and is designed to work with ceramic, porcelain, marble and stone tiles. Meanwhile, our SlimFix® boards were used in the quote where the customer didn’t want tiles, as SlimFix® can accept wood and laminate floors directly, or carpets and vinyls with a suitable cover board. Both boards are available in 25mm and 18mm heights for projects where floor height build up is an issue, and the 18mm versions were chosen in this case to minimise build up and ensure the floors remained level throughout.
Both TileFix® and SlimFix® are high-compressive strength systems that provide fast-response heat outputs and offer easy installation. We were able to make the system installation even easier thanks to our wireless Quantum thermostats, which offer a sleek, modern design and can be installed wherever is most suitable without having to run wires or further disrupt the rooms’ existing décor. He is also able to control his UFH from anywhere via his phone thanks to the addition of the Quantum hub.
